Lisa Steltenpohl
|
Lisa Steltenpohl, 22, from North Barrington, Ill., studies at The
Curtis Institute of Music with Roberto Díaz, principal viola of the
Philadelphia Orchestra and Curtis president. Ms. Steltenpohl holds the
Florence R. Laden Memorial Fellowship.
She began her musical studies on viola at age 11 and made her recital
debut in 1999 at the People's Music School in Chicago. Since then, she
has appeared as a soloist with the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra, Chicago
Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. She has
also performed with many orchestras, including the Civic Orchestra of
Chicago, Chicago Youth Orchestra, Encore Chamber Orchestra, and as
principal of the Aspen Concert and Sinfonia Orchestras. She recently
finished her third year as principal viola of the Haddonfield Symphony
and will begin playing in the viola section of the Chamber Orchestra of
Philadelphia.
In the summer of 2006, Ms. Steltenpohl was a fellow at the
Schleswig- Holstein Musik Festival. She has attended Tanglewood Music
Center, Aspen Music Festival, ENCORE School for Strings, and
Interlochen Arts Camp. The recipient of a number of prizes and honors,
she won first prize in the 2001 Division II Chicago Viola Society
Competition and second prize in the 2000 competition, as well as awards
from the Evanston Music Club, Barrington Area Arts Council, and the
Musician's Club of Women.
