Timothy Sawyier
|
Timothy Sawyier, 20, is a third-year student at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studies with Richard Woodhams. At Curtis he performs with the Curtis Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. He has also played with the Richmond Symphony. During high-school, he served as principal oboe of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and of the Encore Chamber Orchestra.
Last summer, Tim participated in the Music from Angel Fire Festival in New Mexico. The summer previous he was the Fernand Gillet Oboe Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, where he was awarded the Mickey Hooten Memorial Award. He has also been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, and other awards include a $25,000 "Music for Youth" Foundation Award in 2004, a 2004 Presidential Scholars in the Arts nomination, and a Fine Arts Award from the Interlochen Arts Camp in 2000. Tim has also won numerous competitions, including the 2003 "Octoboefest" High-School Soloists Competition, the 2002 Union League Civic and Arts Foundation Competition, and the Midwest Young Artists Concerto Competition in both 2002 and 2001.
As a chamber musician, Tim has appeared on the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series and on NPR's "From the Top." His ensemble Pandora's Trio placed 3rd in the Junior Division of the 2004 Fischoff Competition and also won the Rembrandt Chamber Players Competition. He has performed as a soloist with the Encore Chamber Orchestra, Kishwaukee Symphony, Birch Creek Music Center Orchestra, and the Chicago Youth Concert Orchestra. Tim will continue his studies at Curtis in the fall. |
