Past composers-in-residence include Vivian Fung, Stacy Garrop, Lita Grier, Pierre Jalbert, Ricardo Lorenz, David Ludwig, Carter Pann, Conrad Tao, Matthew Tommasini, Zhao Tian, and Patrick Zimmerli.

"Music in the Loft continues to be one of the best chamber music series in Chicago to nurture young composers. My time as composer-in-residence was rewarding and meaningful - at a very critical time in my career, I had several opportunities to compose works for top-notch performers, and, as a bonus, those works were recorded with Cedille Records. I will cherish my relationship with Music in the Loft as well as my friendship with Freddda Hyman."
